Sarina Zhang

Pianist and cellist Sarina Zhang made her debut with the New York Philharmonic at Avery Fisher Hall in November 2011. After winning the Juilliard Pre-college Division competitions on both piano and cello, Sarina made her Alice Tully debut with the Juilliard Pre-College Orchestra on November 15, 2012. That same year, she was a prizewinner at the 2012 Cooper International Piano Competition, and was also a finalist in the Klein and Stulberg international string competitions. In 2013, Sarina was named a National YoungArts Foundation Finalist and a Davidson Fellow by the Davidson Institute for Talent Development. Sarina is also the first person in the history of the Aspen Music Festival to have won both the low strings competition and the piano concerto competition.

Sarina has been featured five times on the national radio program “From the Top”, as both a pianist and a cellist, in addition to her appearance on the premiere episode of the “From the Top, Live from Carnegie Hall” TV series on the PBS network. Sarina has performed as piano and cello soloist with the Prague Youth Philharmonic Symphony at the Rudolfinum in Prague, and as a recitalist, has been presented in solo recitals in Key West, Marathon, and Islamorada in Florida. As a cellist, Sarina was featured at the Juilliard in Aiken residency in March 2011, and at the Bouchaine Young Artist series of the Napa Valley Festival Del Sole in July 2012. Sarina has also been invited multiple times to perform as a guest artist in Dubai as part of the Emirates International Peace Music Festival.

Sarina has performed as a soloist with the St. Louis, Detroit, San Diego, Northridge, Albany, California, and Corpus Christi Symphony Orchestras, as well as the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, Symphony Nova at Boston, and the Auburn Symphony. Most recently, Sarina performed with the Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra, Symphony of the Americas, the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra, the Dubai Youth Orchestra, and the Prague Youth Symphony Orchestra. An avid chamber musician, she performed at the Verbier Academy in 2013 and participated in the Aspen Chamber Music Workshop led by David Finckel and Wu Han in 2013 and 2014.

In the summers of 2014 and 2015, she collaborated with artists like David Halen and Chee-Yun Kim, among others, as a Young Artist at the Innsbrook Institute Summer Academy. Sarina was selected as one of eleven young artists to attend Music@Menlo’s prestigious Chamber Music Institute International Program in 2015. Sarina made her debut with the Juilliard Orchestra and Maestro Susanna Mälkki performing Schumann’s A minor Piano Concerto. Most recently, she was a part of the 4th Season of the Classe d’Excellence de Violoncelle with Gautier Capuçon. She graduated with a Bachelor of Music from the Juilliard School, where she studied piano with Yoheved Kaplinsky and Hung-Kuan Chen, and cello with Richard Aaron and David Finckel and was a proud recipient of a Kovner Fellowship. She continued to pursue a Master’s degree in Germany from the Franz Liszt Hochschule für Musik, where she studied with Wolfgang Emanuel Schmidt and Balázs Szokolay. Currently, Sarina is pursuing a Doctoral Degree in Music at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.
